What is The WRAS and why is it important?

WRAS stands for the Water Regulations Approval Scheme and is an independent UK certification body for plumbing products and materials, helping businesses and consumers choose compliant products that keeps water safe. It is responsible for encouraging the efficient use of water by promoting and facilitating compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations or Scottish Byelaws. These regulations require that a water fitting should not cause waste, misuse, undue consumption, or contamination of the water supply and must be of an appropriate quality and standard.

Plumbing products are considered suitable if they pass appropriate material and mechanical regulatory performance tests. These tests include checks to ensure that products won’t affect the taste or smell of drinking water and do not promote the growth of microorganisms.

WRAS approval is important because it is accepted as a quality benchmark by all water suppliers. Here at Monarch Water, we are proud that all Monarch domestic and Foodservice cold-water softeners comply with the exacting standards of the WRAS. Monarch Water has always been at the forefront of innovation in this sector, and we are delighted our softeners have achieved this recognised level of compliance.

We are pleased to highlight Monarch Water’s commitment to sustainable innovations in water softening with our softeners rigorously tested by the WRAS for durability and quality. Following testing, the products have proven to be of a suitable quality and standard against water fitting regulations, which means they are fully supported by UK water authorities.
